How STEP and CAL differ in practice

A 3D model has no front of its own, so the CAL shows it from one viewpoint: the angles you set on the X, Y and Z axes, or a preset such as the isometric view. Whatever faces away from that viewpoint is not in the picture, so a part with features on several sides needs several images, which the multiple-frames option renders in one run. Without further settings, a STEP assembly converts to a single CAL. With Load STEP as separated shapes switched on, each part becomes its own file instead, so one assembly fills a folder with one CAL per part.
