STL to IGS: what to expect from the conversion

STL stores a surface made of triangles, while IGS is built for exact solid geometry. The conversion has to derive surfaces from that triangle mesh, so the result is faithful to the shape but is not the same thing as a parametric model with clean features and editable dimensions. STL holds bare numbers with no unit, and IGS has to state one, so the conversion has to assume it. If the STL was exported in inches or metres, the result is off by that same factor. Measure one known dimension after conversion.
