BLEND to STL: what to expect from the conversion

BLEND records the unit its model was built in, and STL has nowhere to put one: it holds bare numbers, which slicers read as millimetres. A model built in inches can arrive 25.4 times too small, one built in centimetres ten times too small. Check one known dimension in the slicer before printing. BLEND can carry appearance as well as shape: colours and materials, and often texture images, on top of the geometry. STL stores geometry alone, a list of triangles with no colour at all, so the model arrives as one plain surface. That suits printing, where colour comes from the filament, and loses anything that existed only as a texture.
