How to Convert Multiple DIC Images to DDS?
1. Download and Install reaConverter
Install reaConverter to process DIC files offline. Quick setup, no account required — HIPAA-friendly from installation. reaConverter also includes editing tools: resize, crop, rotate, and more.
2. Load your DIC files
Open reaConverter and add your DIC files. You can load individual files, entire folders, or even nested subfolders.
Select DICs from a folder or drag-and-drop them directly into the reaConverter window.
3. Select DDS as output format
Pick DDS as output format and choose the destination folder where you want to save new .dds files.
4. Start DIC to DDS conversion
Press the Convert button and reaConverter takes care of the rest. Processing time depends on file size and volume.
After processing, find all your new .dds files in the output location. The log shows details for each conversion.
What changes when you convert DIC to DDS
DIC stores 16-bit greyscale covering the full dynamic range of the scan, and DDS shows 8 bits. The conversion applies a window level, so what ends up visible depends on the window you choose. Decide separately whether patient metadata should be copied to the output or stripped from it. DIC stores pixels without compression loss and DDS does not, so this is a one-way step. Choose a high quality setting, and avoid converting the same file back and forth, because each pass compounds the artefacts.
