Before you convert DIC to ICO
DIC stores 16-bit greyscale covering the full dynamic range of the scan, and ICO shows 8 bits. The conversion applies a window level, so what ends up visible depends on the window you choose. Decide separately whether patient metadata should be copied to the output or stripped from it. ICO stores a limited palette rather than full colour, so the conversion has to reduce the number of distinct colours. Photographic content shows this as banding, while flat graphics and icons usually survive it untouched.
