DIC to WEBP: what carries over and what does not
DIC stores 16-bit greyscale covering the full dynamic range of the scan, and WEBP shows 8 bits. The conversion applies a window level, so what ends up visible depends on the window you choose. Decide separately whether patient metadata should be copied to the output or stripped from it. DIC carries 16 bits per channel and WEBP carries 8, so tonal steps get coarser during conversion. It shows up first in smooth gradients such as skies. If the result will be edited further, move to an 8-bit format only at the very end.
