How to Convert Multiple NEF Images to AI?
1. Download and Install reaConverter
reaConverter is a standalone Windows app — download, install, and start converting NEF files in under two minutes. You can also resize, crop, and adjust images during conversion.
2. Load your NEF files
Start reaConverter and add your .nef files. The software processes everything locally, so your files never leave your computer.
Select NEFs from a folder or drag-and-drop them directly into the reaConverter window.

3. Select AI as output format
Choose AI as the target format. Pick a destination folder or let reaConverter save files alongside the originals.

4. Start NEF to AI conversion
Press the Convert button and reaConverter takes care of the rest. Processing time depends on file size and volume.

After processing, find all your new .ai files in the output location. The log shows details for each conversion.
How NEF and AI differ in practice
NEF files hold unprocessed sensor data, so white balance and exposure are still adjustable. Converting to AI bakes those decisions into the pixels, and highlight recovery is no longer available afterwards. Set white balance and exposure before the run rather than after. NEF is made of pixels and AI is a geometry format, so the two describe images in fundamentally different ways. Check the result before sending it downstream: what matters is whether the output contains editable geometry or a picture placed inside a AI container, and that determines whether a CAD or design tool can work with it.
