How to Convert Multiple VSI Images to AVIF?

How VSI and AVIF differ in practice
VSI carries 16 bits per channel and AVIF carries 12, so tonal steps get coarser during conversion. It shows up first in smooth gradients such as skies. If the result will be edited further, move to a 12-bit format only at the very end. VSI and AVIF both compress by discarding data, so this is a re-encode rather than a copy. The output is built from already-compressed pixels, and the artefacts of the first encode are carried into the second. Use a high quality setting, and convert from the original whenever you still have it.
